Hill Towns of Veneto Day Tour



Enjoy a relaxing day in the enchanting hills of the Veneto. Stroll around picturesque historic villages and towns, explore a renaissance country villa and savour the delicious cuisine and famous wines of the region.

This delightful tour travels at a relaxed pace along scenic back-roads allowing you to fully appreciate the beauty of the Venetian Countryside. The first visit of the day is to the medieval town of Marostica, famous for its imposing fortified castle and the giant permanent chess-board in the town square. The tradition of a living game of chess is played every two years and dates from the 15th century.

Enjoy some free time to walk around this charming small town. Afterwards, continue to the beautiful town of Bassano del Grappa, featuring a picturesque Palladian bridge crossing the mighty Brenta River. Enjoy a guided tour of its narrow streets, historic squares and marvel at the superb vistas over the surrounding hills and mountains. There is also the chance to sample some of the local ‘Grappa’ firewater and free time to explore the shops- Bassano is famous for its locally produced ceramics and porcini mushrooms.

The last of the Venetian Hill Towns visited is elegant Asolo perched on lush-green hills. Known as the ‘Pearl of Veneto’ this enchanting town is characterised by delightful gardens, renaissance palaces and palatial villas that have inspired poets and writers through the centuries.

After an optional lunch a typical trattoria (additional cost payable locally) enjoy a visit to one of the areas amazing Renaissance Villas – either the Villa Barbaro (Tuesdays and Sundays ) or Villa Emo (Fridays). Both are splendid examples of Palladian. From here, you continue to a local winery for a casual tasting of Prosecco wine. The winery offers stunning views of the terraced slopes thickly planted with vines.

Doges Palace & the Secret Itinerary Tour



Enjoy skip-the-line entrance to Venice’s most important building. Explore the sumptuous public rooms and then view the secret chambers that were known only by a few trusted men of the Republic. Discover Casanova’s prison cell and learn about his legendary escape, view the torture chambers and see the Chancellors Offices where top secret documents of the Venetian Republic were stored.

During the heyday of the Venetian Republic, Doges Palace was the most important building in Venice. Within its walls, the Doge and his counsellors governed the city and created the most modern and liberal state in Europe. The open architecture and grand public rooms are a testimony to the unbeatable power and immense wealth of the Republic, but the building also housed a secret world closed to everyone but a few trusted men of the Republic behind the walls of the elaborately decorated rooms. This fascinating walking tour of the Doges Palace will introduce you to both the public rooms and the secret chambers.

During the first part of the tour, view the lavishly decorated public chambers featuring works by Tintoretto, Titian, Veronese and many others. Cross the Bridge of Sighs and visit the palace’s famous prisons. Accompanied by an expert guide, hear about the infamous Council of Ten and also learn about the diverse roles played in society by the Doge and his counsellors. Afterwards, visit the secret inner sanctums of the palace where you will discover the secrets of the Venetian Republic.


See the Chancellors Office where a multitude of Secret documents were kept and then head to the gruesome Torture Chamber where enemies of the state would be tortured before the state inquisitors. From the torture chamber we head up to the I Piombi Prisons, so called because they lay directly below the roof of the Doges Palace. These wooden cells would be intolerably hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter months. Also visit the former prison of Casanova, the famous lover.
